The Big Question...

As seniors, we have all heard it a million times. What do you want to do with your life. I for one hate that question. I'm 18 years old. Am I really supposed to have my life already planned out? I mean of course I plan on attending college, but as for the where and what for, I'm still undecided. There are a couple of majors that I have been interested in and researching a lot. And that would happen to be sports medicine or physical therapy.
In the past 5 years I have seriously injured both my knees. In 8th grade I tore my acl in my right knee along with some cartilage. 3 years later I happened to do the exact same thing to my left knee. I know what your thinking, I must have the worst luck ever. But I blame it more on genetics from my dad's side of the family. Anyways with torn acls comes a lot of physical therapy. After going through all that and seeing what their job was like, I became interested. I began to think that this may be something i could see myself doing in the future. I already have a lot of first hand experience in the subject so why not? Now since that is what I may be looking at majoring in, I began to look at colleges that had those fields. I am currently focusing on 2 main school, the University of Northern Iowa, and Iowa State University.
Iowa State has always been my favorite college in terms of sports. Ever since I was a little kid, I have been raised to be a cyclone fan. So Iowa State has that homey feeling for me. I already know a lot of the campus from past visits for various reasons such as sporting events and visiting friends. Looking at classes, they do have the field in which I am looking at. Another positive for Iowa State would be the fact that it is very close to home. If i needed to come back for any reason, it wouldn't be a problem at all. One negative about it though may be its class size. Some classes have hundreds of students in it and you lose that sense of close teaching that you get in highschool.
The University of Northern Iowa also specializes in the field I am looking into. My brother is currently a student at UNI so I have a lot of personal first hand experience on that campus as well. I have been there a lot and I must say that I do like the atmosphere around Ceder Falls. It's a big enough school and town that you won't get bored all the time, but still small enough to give you that homey feeling. The class sizes are much smaller than at Iowa States and most classes only have about 20 kids in them. That's something I would greatly enjoy. But as for which school I will be attending, that decision is still up in the air.
So for all those people who are wondering what I am going to do with my life after highschool, there's a little insight in to what may be in the future for me. I wish it was still as easy to answer as when I was little, but unfortunately, I think my chances of becoming an astronaut are very slim. Hmmm maybe I could still be a fireman though. I don't know it looks like I'm just going to have to wait and see how it all turns out. Whatever I become or decide to do, I'm going to make sure it's something I truely enjoy. As long as it's something I love, I know I'll be happy.

  1. Good luck with the college decision. It is definitely one that is important. It looks like you are giving each college a good luck and thinking through things, so I'm sure you'll be fine.
